UPDATE ON VISITOR RESTRICTIONS

UPDATE: Nov. 19, 2020

Current trends in both Maricopa County and at HonorHealth show increasing rates of COVID-19 infection in the community and inpatient admissions. HonorHealth has always supported patient/family centered care however, in order to ensure patient, employee and visitor safety we will be restricting visitation effective Monday, Nov. 23.  Several health systems across metro Phoenix are instituting similar restrictions.  Limited exceptions will be made for end-of-life or intellectual and/or developmentally challenged patient circumstances.

The federal, state and local government officials have recommended a tiered approach using rates of community spread to guide relaxation of safety and social distancing practices put in place to prevent the spread of the pandemic. As a response, HonorHealth instituted the below Visitor Guidelines:

  • Restricted – no general visitation allowed.
  • Concerned – one designated visitor allowed, with appropriate restrictions, for each procedural patient.
  • Cautious – one designated visitor allowed, for all hospitalized patients, during limited hours with appropriate restrictions.
  • Stable – open visitation with appropriate screening, masking and social distancing provisions.

Effective Nov 23,  we are moving from the “Cautious  to Restricted visitation level based on supportive data for that category. What this means for you and our patients is that no visitors will be allowed to accompany patients for their procedure in any of our facilities (except for limited exceptions mentioned above). Technology allows us to remain in touch with patients’ significant others (one person listed by patient), and we are committed to keeping them informed during all phases of procedural care.

HonorHealth’s visitation level will be reviewed on a regular basis, and we will adjust according to clearly defined community and system-level metrics. Thank you for your continued partnership as we navigate this unprecedented time together.

Talking points & templates

As you work on rescheduling surgeries or procedures for your patients, you should know that HonorHealth has strict infection prevention protocols in place to handle suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19 and any other infectious diseases. Below are some talking points and templates you can use to share more information about these protocols to your patients.

Please note: HonorHealth is testing all patients prior to their scheduled surgery or procedure. If HonorHealth is unable to reach your patient (s) to schedule their COVID-19 test prior to their surgery or procedure, we will call the surgeon's office to try to get a hold of the patient (a patient is more likely to answer a call from their surgeon's office). We will provide the surgeon's office with the PAT number that the patient can use to schedule their appointment.

Medical Staff screening

All Medical Staff and Allied Health Staff (“Practitioners”) will be required to be screened for fever and symptoms upon entering a HonorHealth medical center. To facilitate the screening process, entry to the hospitals will be limited to one designated entrance.

The Medical Staff screening process will involve the following:

  • Based on facility equipment availability, you will either self-screen for fever or
you will be screened at the facility entry point for fever
  • Please declare to the screening staff if you have the following symptoms on
    entry to the facility:
    • Temperature of 100.0 or higher, and/or
    • New onset respiratory symptoms (cough, shortness of breath), and/or
    • Diarrhea

In the event the temperature scanner or your self-screening reflects a reading of 100.0 or higher and/or you have new onset respiratory symptoms and/or diarrhea, you will not be allowed to enter the hospital. Practitioners will be asked to sign the Medical Staff COVID-19 Symptomatic Practitioner Attestation attestation form and report the failed screening via email to the Medical Staff Services office at dmill3@honorhealth.com.

Please review the Return to Work Policy for Symptomatic Practitioners for information on how to return to work.
